Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

This situation is serious and changing rapidly. We are adapting our practice in order to be able to maintain our high level of service to the community and follow the current government guidelines.

COVID-19 Vaccination

  • We are running clinics for the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 Vaccine Vaxzevria
    - You do not have to be a patient of the practice to book in
    - A Health summary is desirable
    - Available for all persons aged 18 years and over
    - Please note that ATARGI has recommended that the Pfizer Comirnaty and Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 are the preferred vaccines for persons aged under 60yo
  • After the 20th of September we will commence Pfizer Comirnaty Clinics
    - You do not have to be a patient of the practice to book in
    - Supply will be limited
    - Available to all persons aged 16 and over BUT priority will be given to certain population groups
  • Clinics will be added as stock is received check our website and Facebook site for updates
  • Online bookings are preferred or you can call us on (02) 6257 4086
  • COVID-19 Vaccines are provided free to everyone



Influenza Vaccination

  • Private and Government funded flu vaccinations are now available
  • You can book an appointment with our practice nurses by calling reception
  • COVID Vaccines and Flu Vaccine must be given at least 1 WEEKS APART


We are encouraging all patients to have their consultations via telehealth (phone or video) where possible. Appointments can be made online or over the phone, please provide your best telephone number and email for the booking. You will be required to have a recent negative COVID swab if you wish to be seen for any respiratory illness or fever. Please call reception for further advice.

You must check in, sanitise your hands and wear a mask as a requirement for entering the surgery.

Standard and long appointments are available for for:
- Medical Consultations that do not require an examination
- Care Plans including Chronic Disease and Mental Health Plans
- Select Mental Health Consults
- Pregnancy Counselling


As of October 6th 2020 a fee now applies to all telephone and video consultations:
- Standard fee $75 with discount fees available for Health Care Card and Pension Card holders
- Private Consultations are still available for patients who have not had a face to face consultation in the past 12 months. No Medicare rebate will apply unless the ACT is under a declared public health order.

Prescriptions and referrals without a consult:
$15 ($20 if posted)

All other fees remain unchanged.

Due to the increase volume of requests, please allow at least 1 week for the practice to process prescription and referral requests.

Wakefield Gardens Surgery is a true family practice in Canberra’s inner north. We are proud to say that we have looked after generations of families, with some of our patients associated with us for more than 50 years.

We had our beginnings in the 1960s in a small house in Ainslie, and moved to our present location at 99 Wakefield Gardens, Ainslie, in 1990. Our aim, over decades of care, has been to provide quality, comprehensive medical services within a friendly, caring environment.
